Lead Service Line Inventory
Lead Service Line Inventory
On December 16, 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced steps to strengthen the regulations on lead in drinking water. On August 4, 2022, the EPA released guidance to help communities identify pipes connecting drinking water to homes and other buildings containing lead.
The goal of the rule revision is to replace all lead service lines. An accurate inventory will help the Town replace lead service lines as they are located. The EPA and cooperating agencies continue to update rules and guidelines, and the Town will stay apprised of changes to maintain our high level of water quality.
Public Education
The Town created educational material to help guide residents through the Lead Service Line Inventory and the future processes established for public health involving potential lead contamination within a service line. An explanation of the EPA’s updated rule, along with an FAQ, is provided to aid with further questions.

Lead Service Line Inventory
The Town developed an initial inventory of all service lines within the Town and their status pertaining to potential lead contamination. This inventory is required to be made available to the public. This is a living inventory and will be updated frequently. The status of resident-owned and Town-owned portions of service lines is listed separately for a more accurate depiction of responsibility and actions needed.

Accredited Laboratories Under NELAP
The Town is responsible for providing a list of National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) laboratories for residents to contact should they choose to have their water tested for lead. The Town has provided 18 accredited labs for residents to choose from. Residents may contact any of the labs and request a lead testing kit to purchase. The lab will provide the home lead testing kit and instructions for the sampling and testing.
