Children's Summer Reading Club

Starting June 1, register and participate online, at, for the 2022 Children’s Summer Reading Club. 

  • Programs are available for ages 0 - 5 and readers in 1st - 6th grades. 
  • Earn points, badges, and certificates by logging minutes read, activities completed, and events attended.
  • You may also pick up a print Summer Reading Log at the Library to keep track of your summer reading activities. 
  • Earn 150 points to receive a prize, and earn a total of 300 points to receive a prize and a certificate of completion.
  • Complete the program and Library staff will choose a book to donate in your name to Camp Sweeney. Lead by the Southwestern Diabetic Foundation, Camp Sweeney provides medical training, recreational experience, and comprehensive, rehabilitative care to children and youth with diabetes. Camp Sweeney is regarded as one of the largest, most effective diabetes educational facilities in the world.

SRC 2022 Events

The Highland Park Library presents families and children a summer of exciting events and shows.  

Earn 25 points towards your reading goal for each event you attend. 

Summer Event Schedule

June Events

  • June 3, 10:00 a.m. - Blackland Prairie Raptor Center. Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will provide a live presentation introducing children to the world of raptors. These hawks, owls and falcons are well trained and an important part of our environment. Discover their roles in the food chain, adaptations to hunt in woodland, wetlands and prairies, and watch as they demonstrate their unique capabilities. 

    Located in Prather Park. Corner of Euclid and Drexel. No registration required. 
    In the event of inclement weather, the show will be canceled.
  • June 17, 10:00 a.m. - Professor Pop's Bubble ShowProfessor Pop will present a whole show full of bubble tricks. There will be bubbles inside bubbles, square bubbles, giant bubbles, bubble themed magic tricks, and more!

    Located in Prather Park. Corner of Euclid and Drexel. No registration required. 
    In the event of inclement weather, the show will be canceled. 

July Events

  • July 8, 10:00 a.m. - Moana Hula Princess Show and HP DPS Event. Aloha! Join us for the Moana Hula Princess Show by Grace Hula Dance Company. Dance with Moana, sing songs, and learn some hula moves. Enjoy pictures with Moana after the show! 

    Plus, join Highland Park's Department of Public Safety to visit and explore interactive stations. 
    This community event will include face painting, exciting giveaways, and more!

  • July 23, 2:00 p.m. - Oceans of Fun Show

    Oceans of Fun is a great show with puppets, songs and magic! This show has a pirate boy, a rainbow fish, and a beautiful mermaid who tell stories and sing songs about life under the sea! A magical goldfish will multiply before the children's' eyes as they have a big splash watching this show! 

    Located at the Highland Park Library, 2nd Floor Town Hall. 

    Be sure to sign up for the 2022 Children’s Summer Reading Club at Participants can earn 25 points towards their reading goal for each virtual event they attend this summer.
